Family Leave Research

Expanding on past research, the Women’s Rabbinc Network (WRN) has partnered with the Center for Parental Leave Leadership (CPLL) to conduct the landmark survey, which resulted in this 2025 Family and Medical leave Research Report. This project generated a comprehensive understanding of family and medical leave access, experiences, and attitudes within the Reform Movement’s professional community.

Focus areas include:

    • Prevalence of need for leave and perceived value
    • Who has access to leave, including ability to take time off and sources (if any) of pay while on leave
    • Satisfaction with leave programs and practices
    • Unique leave-related situations or challenges specific to Reform Movement professionals

We extend our sincere thanks for the valuable input from the survey participants. This research was possible because of a generous grant from the SRE Network.

From 2020-2023, the Women’s Rabbinc Network (WRN) has partnered with the Center for Parental Leave Leadership (CPLL) to develop the WRN Family and Medical Leave Policy Standards for the Jewish Community which included conducting original research exploring the leave experiences of WRN members. Over 300 female and non-binary rabbis participated from congregational and non-congregational settings. Research findings illuminate inequities in access to, and quality of, leave experiences - highlighting the importance of offering clear, consistent policies and supportive practices.
